Diane Gilpin leads Smart Green Shipping, a collaborative industry initiative designed to develop technically, commercially and environmentally superior systems solutions for shipping.
SGS is progressing a project retrofitting ships with FastRigTM wingsails. Partners include the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, European Space Agency, Drax - the UK’s largest renewable power generator, shipowners/operators, UltraBulk, insurers and financiers.
Diane was recognised in the BBC Woman’s Hour Power List 2020, she advises the UK Government as a member of the Clean Maritime Council, is a ‘Green Shipping Expert’ for the STEERER Waterborne EU Transport Platform. She won an InnovateUK ‘Women in Innovation Award’ in 2016, ‘One to Watch’ at Ship Efficiency Awards 2015. She co-designed the Ambition 1.5: Global Shipping’s Action Plan at COP23 in Bonn.
