Annual Review 2018
Maritime UK has published its first annual review.
Maritime UK is the sector’s umbrella body, bringing together the shipping, ports, services, engineering and leisure marine industries to drive growth by promoting the sector, influencing government and fostering collaboration. The sector supports just under 1 million jobs and contributes around £40bn to GDP.
Formally launched at the Maritime Masters Reception at Clarksons Platou on Thursday, the review highlights work across Maritime UK’s strategic objectives, covering policy and politics, international promotion, partnership with government, skills, and regional cluster development. The review also features a ‘state of the industries’ section with updates from Maritime UK members.
David Dingle, Maritime UK Chairman said:
“Since taking the chair in September 2015, much has been achieved. Today, Maritime UK is a completely different organisation and community to the one that it was. And the sector is all the better for it.”
“With particular thanks to the Department for Transport, maritime issues are now more fully understood in government, and more than that, we are now more readily seen as a partner to realise government’s objectives.”
“Over the coming months, Maritime UK will be shaping its future strategic and organisational strategy. The voice of government and individual companies should be heard in those discussions, and we invite you to let us know your thoughts.
“Together, we’ve built firm foundations. The future is bright for Maritime UK and the maritime sector, and we invite you to be part of the next stage of our development.”
Maritime Minister, Nusrat Ghani MP said:
“The UK maritime sector is one of our nation’s greatest success stories. It continues to grow from strength to strength adding high quality jobs, driving innovation and boosting exports. A central pillar of this success is the strong partnership between the UK maritime sector and government, and Maritime UK is at the very heart of this. Since becoming Minister for maritime I have seen first-hand the breadth and depth of work of the Maritime UK team, and this annual report highlights recent achievements of which they should be proud.
“Maritime UK’s annual review is a testament to the organisation’s success over the past 12 months. It is great for government to have such an active and dedicated partner to work with and I look forward to deepening our partnership over the next year as we work together to grow and promote our world class maritime industries.”
Robert Jenrick MP, Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury said:
“HM Treasury recognises the value of the maritime sector, and the important contribution it makes to the UK economy.
“We are working closely with industry through Maritime UK and other stakeholders to support maritime growth.
“I was pleased to recently hear from the sector about its priorities.”
