Welcome to Maritime Parliamentary Reception: Celebrating Merchant Navy Day
Maritime UK, in partnership with Nautilus International, were delighted to host the "Welcome to Maritime Parliamentary Reception" in celebration of Merchant Navy Day. This prestigious event took place at the House of Commons and brought together key stakeholders, industry leaders, and policymakers to honour and showcase the vital contributions of the Merchant Navy to the United Kingdom.
The reception featured a keynote address by Mike Kane MP, Minister of Maritime, Security and Aviation who highlighted the critical role that maritime plays in supporting our island nation. Minister Kane emphasised the importance of Merchant Navy Day, not only as a time to recognise and reflect on seafarers who have served over the decades, but also as a reminder of the ongoing critical significance of our Merchant Navy to the UK economy and national security.
Chris Shirling-Rooke MBE, CEO of Maritime UK, added, "Merchant Navy Day is a time to contemplate the tremendous contributions of those who work tirelessly at sea, often in challenging conditions, to keep our country moving. We were honoured to hold the reception with Nautilus International to mark this significant day."
“The event provided an opportunity for attendees to discuss the future of maritime in the UK, with a focus on driving innovation, sustainability, and growth in the sector. As the UK continues to navigate the challenges and opportunities of a rapidly changing global landscape, the importance of a strong and resilient maritime industry has never been more apparent.”
