Maritime UK Champions National Apprenticeship Week 2025

Maritime UK, the umbrella body for the UK’s maritime sector, is celebrating National Apprenticeship Week 2025 by highlighting the crucial role apprenticeships play in developing the next generation of maritime professionals and ensuring a competitive and sustainable industry. National Apprenticeship Week provides a platform for the education and skills sector to honour the accomplishments of apprentices nationwide, acknowledging the positive influence they have on communities, businesses, and the broader economy.

This year’s theme, "Skills for Life," reinforces the importance of equipping apprentices with the expertise needed to build long-term, successful careers in maritime. Maritime UK is calling on industry leaders to expand apprenticeship opportunities, invest in skills development, and embrace apprenticeships as a vital pathway into maritime careers.

As part of its commitment to workforce development, Maritime UK delivers key People Programmes, including extensive careers and outreach work to strengthen the sector’s talent pipeline. These initiatives provide guidance, research, and advocacy to support employers in attracting and developing skilled workers through apprenticeships and other training routes.

Chris Shirling-Rooke, Chief Executive of Maritime UK, said: “Apprenticeships are essential to securing a thriving maritime sector, ensuring that we have the skilled workforce needed to drive innovation, sustainability, and economic growth. As we celebrate National Apprenticeship Week 2025, we encourage businesses across the industry to invest in apprenticeships, opening doors for new talent and strengthening the UK’s position as a global maritime leader.”
