Comment: PM's 'Road to Brexit' speech

David Dingle CBE, Chairman of Maritime UK said:

“The maritime sector welcomes the Prime Minister’s speech today. Her commitment to prioritise as frictionless trade as possible is welcome. What we urgently need now is for both sides to agree the terms of the transition agreement. Business needs certainly and stability.

“Negotiations are two-sided and always require compromise. We welcome the Prime Minister’s realistic comments today and call for the European Union to show similar realism in getting a deal that works for both sides.

“We particularly welcomed the Prime Minister’s focus on technology and innovation. The maritime sector is working on its sector deal to position the UK as a leader in maritime technology and we call on government to support our bid. Words must be backed with action.

“By creating the new technology that the world wants, we’ll increase exports and make global Britain a reality.”
