“During Cop26 we saw the need to make real change for the future of our industry, as well as the world we live in. This requires innovation, new ways of thinking, ingenuity and creativity. We are also passionate about supporting the next generation, to build in them an interest in the maritime world and the impact they may have so we are delighted to be supporting the innovation category, to spur on the next generation and make real change."
Open to business, charity or organisation of any size, this award will be made to those that can demonstrate an exceptional true commitment to innovation. They will be able to evidence how they have innovated to solve a particular challenge, create a new product or service.
Highly respected experts from a variety of businesses and government departments were involved in the judging panel for this year’s Maritime UK Awards, which celebrate the achievements of the UK’s maritime sector, which adds £46.1bn to the UK economy every year, and supports 1.1 million jobs.
Three strong entries have been shortlisted for Innovation Award: Jebb Smith Ltd, Babcock LGE and Associated British Ports.
Jebb Smith Ltd
Jebb Smith Ltd is a marine engineering SME based in Aberdeen with a passion for green marine energy projects. The core activity is the development of in-field recharging solutions to enable hybrid and electric vessels to recharge offshore. A key challenge for the wind industry is decarbonising O&M fleets. Jebb Smith’s flagship project, the Oasis Power Buoy, is designed for wind farm crew transfer vessels. Providing in-field charging will enable vessels to run on green energy for longer periods and will make them viable competitors to the current diesel high carbon footprint alternative.
Babcock LGE
With a proven track record in developing market leading, innovative technologies for the processing, handling and storage of liquefied gas, Babcock is forging a world of opportunity for international shipyards and shipowners.
Associated British Ports
As one of the country’s busiest deep-water ports, Southampton caters for a wide range of customers and trades, with facilities to handle virtually any type of cargo. Its natural deep-water harbour and unique double tide allow unrestricted access for the world’s largest vessels. ABP Southampton provides VTS & pilotage services throughout Southampton Water and much of the Central & Eastern Solent.
Sarah Kenny, Chair of Maritime UK, said:
“We’re delighted to announce the finalists for the Maritime UK Awards 2022. We were absolutely blown away by the number and quality of submissions this year. Organisations and individuals across the breadth of the maritime sector are making significant progress toward our shared Maritime 2050 ambitions, and this is certainly an exciting time to be in the maritime sector.
“Maritime is a sector that is now being recognised as critical to the country’s prosperity, sustainability, resilience and future. We’re a sector that makes a significant contribution to each and every part of the United Kingdom, and Glasgow is no exception. In Glasgow and Scotland as a whole, we have an incredibly compelling maritime proposition as the UK’s second-largest cluster. It offers Europe’s largest ship management cluster, world class naval ship design, build and support, globally recognised support to offshore energy operations, world-class nautical training and maritime universities and academics.
“Congratulations to everyone that entered the awards, and in particular to our finalists. I look forward to celebrating our tremendous maritime sector in Glasgow!”
